ill say this for in-n-out, they pay their workers a good wage and use fresh ingredients. their workers work their asses off though. you should see them all in action during a rush lunch hour out in california, its amazing. i dont know if this is a franchise or not but i thought they were still all privately held. i think its the best fast food burger, whataburger is close but they are completely different.

I am a fan but then again I also really enjoy Whataburger, Culver's, Casino El Camino, the yellow school bus (Old School BBQ), Chris Madrid's and others. I guess I like burgers.

Ok, 100p, how do you think in & out compares. Never had one but I know there are those in California who swear by them. I like Whataburger. How do you think they compare?

Hmmm, different flavors and tastes. i almost want to say that the In n Out is moister. I like the ambiance of the place, the crew and I guess because I always associate it with being in Cali. I have family there and lots of memories. To me part of the allure of Whataburger is their other things, their special items. The special burgers or the honey butter biscuits, things like that. A huge part of WB for me is also their amazing Ketchup that must have Crack in it. I don't think I go to WB for a typcial burger.
I do at In n Out. I guess what I am saying is that I prefer the actual burgers at I n O over WB but WB has many other things.

Been years since I've had one but burgers have 1000 island on them. Burgers are decent but the fries were disgusting. They slice up fresh potatoes on site but seem to just throw the potatoes right into fryer then serve them up. They are bland and not crispy. Pretty much the worst fries I've ever had.

Regarding condiments. I have no idea why no one knows this, but you can get whatever condiments you want on them.

Also, you just say "fries, well done" and they will be nice and crispy. They do use fresh potatoes that they hand cut on-site.

Rayug,
perhaps you are talking about Jim's burgers that used to beon Divison St between Mesquite and Center in Arlington. Still the best burger I might have ever eaten. Of course, when a place closes (not because of a lack of customers) the memory makes the burger legend grow even more.
Jim's was great. They all came with very greasy grilled onions piled on them all.... Man, that was a burger.

Living in Vegas, In-n-Out has basically become my replacement for Whataburger, so I feel qualified to speak on this...
Burger size: whataburger wins.
Condiments: I'm a mustard fan so I like Whataburger better here, but the In-n-Out dressing is good. (Some kind of Thousand Islands tasting thing?)
Toppings: In-n-Out wins on this, very fresh lettuce and leafy, not the crunchy iceberg stuff. But at the same time, Whataburger has more options. Plus if you like pickles, that's another plus for Whataburgers - I just don't happen to like them.
Cheese: NO WINNER - unless Whataburger lets you substitute cheddar like they did off and on. If they do, then Whataburger wins.
Service: In n out, as mentioned, they do a fantastic job. Whataburger actually does OK compared to other fast food places, but In n out is the clear winner. They have a location near me that is always 10-15 cars deep from 11-2, and they have a portable register that one of their window people takes out and goes from car to car taking orders. They do a great job managing their traffic.
Fries: In n out, but it's close. I like the thin, crispy fries.
Intangibles: Whataburger. LOVE the thick-n-hearty! Annnnnd the breakfast tacos!
So I have to go with Whataburger in a close one, mainly because I can't get them!!!
