Another bit of baseball history dies. Sad.
Who was on second, and who was on deck?

Whitey Lockman was on second. His double plated Al Dark for the Giants' first run of the inning and chased Don Newcombe. Ralph Branca was brought in to pitch to Thomson.
There has always been talk that Branca didn't have enough time to warm up and that's why he surrendered the fat pitch

Texanne, I'm not saying this to flatter you, but I would not have guessed you were even alive when that happened.
”I have received a few more small school offers," (Auburn commit Eltoro) Freeman said. "They have been small schools like Alabama State, Tuskegee and Texas A&M.”

I always thought this was one of the most poignant pictures I ever saw. Ralph Branca crying after giving up the Shot

AstroVol, I wasn't. I didn't come along for another six years.
I am somewhat of a student of the game and love reading baseball history. I love baseball's past.
