"These Boots Are Made For Walkin'"

(I Left My Heart In) San Francisco"

The Pina Colada song.

Abba's Dancing Queen

A lot of Neil Diamond. "Did you ever read of the frog who dreamed of being a king and then became one? Except for the name and a few other changes, if you talk about me, story's the same one."

Dear FAST FRED: As Frank Barone might so eloquently say: "UMBRANCE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is some pretty good stuff on your list.! Let me just say as a baby boomer that the "Ballad Of Davey Crockett: is classic and that Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs' "Sugar Shack" is also a r&r standard ( Jimmy is an Amarillo boy like me so I gotta give him props)

Re: Cheesiest Song You Ever Liked [re: LonghornCatholic]

As I said, kbrown, I played them all willingly and proudly.

We used to do "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" so harmoniously it sounded like The Everly Brothers were covering it.

And "Sugar Shack" was cool because it had a definite instrumental part for each band member to play (a snappy and simple but driving bass, a guitar with the amp set on tremolo, the drums keeping a brisk tempo, and a Vox organ mimicking the flute) instead of everybody just playing whatever all at once.

Kind of presaged what The Doors later came to use as their signature sound.

I wonder if Jim Morrison ever sang "Sugar Shack?"

The vocal on "More Today Than Yesterday" is exceptional, the singer in The Spiral Starecase can really sing.

The Link

The Link

His vocal range goes way up there, kinda like the late Brad Delp of "Boston."

Re: Cheesiest Song You Ever Liked [re: LonghornCatholic]

The first song that came to mind when I first read the thread I forgot.

"Why Do You Build Me Up Buttercup" by The Foundations. Actually I like a lot more cheesy songs than I really should but that's the way it is.

Agree on the singer from Spiral Starecase.

No and unfortunately my speakers died some time ago and I've never bothered to replace them. I'll bet she did a better job as that would not be one of my favorite "cheesies". While at UT in the mid-70's I began listening to jazz, blues, and big band a lot more and haven't really followed "popular" music since.

That's a classic. Don't really remember Indian Lake.

Two more-

Raindrops- Johnny Ray

Running Bear- lyrics by The Big Bopper. I like the Guess Who cover more than the original by Johnny Preston.

English version of "Seasons in the the Sun" by Terry Jacks.

The sad part is I still don't think it's cheesy.

The iPhone is still loaded with all the Surfer Music of the 60s: Surfin' USA, I get Around, etc.

Somebody mentioned Paul Revere and the raiders, the [censored] Clark Cavalcade of Stars came through San Antonio when I was in High School. They were the headliners and I was on the third row!!!
