Re: All of the Titans bandwagoning is ridiculous [re: LONGHORNman]

I'm a Cowboy fan and used to be an Oiler fan.

I've only seen one Texans game this year. Guess which game that was.

I'll be rooting for VY and the Titans on Sunday.

The Houston Texans have successfully made more fans of their city hate them than like them. I really didn't think that was possible but that's what you get for F'ing with Vince.

I was a die hard Oiler fan from back in the Luv ya Blue days. Passing on VInce is equal, no actually worse than Bum taking his team. Because Bum was forced to leave, by Houston, to get a modern stadium.

Bob McNair only got agruablely the best stadium in the country on the taxpayers dime because of Bum. If Bob Lanier and company hadn't screwed up and had faced what the modern NFL world is the first time the Oilers would still be in Houston. Bum wasn't the only one at fault in that whole mess.

Go VInce!!

I had never pulled against the Cowboys until this year when Vince played against them. I dumped all loyalty down the drain --- and I was surprised at how easy it was. I guess that's the love of a University and college sports over pros, and an admiration of a guy who gave me thrill after thrill and was the big factor in letting me say "national champions" --- boy that sounds great.

I'll be there, celebrating my birthday and rooting for Vince.

Re: All of the Titans bandwagoning is ridiculous [re: LONGHORNman]

I'm a native Houstonian. At 3 years old, I used to go the games with my dad and hold up my Earl Campbell doll. My first memories are of watching the 1979 AFC Championship game, and most of my Oilers memories. like all Oilers fans, usually ended in disappointment. The Oilers were by far my favorite sports franchise, much more than the Rockets or Astros, of which I am a huge fan.

When they left Houston, it was like a death in the family. I quit watching the NFL altogether. Not even the Superbowl. That continued until the Texans arrived, though I am still largely indifferent. I will never root for the Titans. I don't care if they started the entire Longhorns national championship team. In fact, if I was Vince, as a Houstonian, I would've refused to play for them and pulled an Eli Manning. That said, Vince is my favorite player, but I will never ever pull for him wearing that uniform against any team. I just hope he performs well in losing efforts. Then gets frustrated and forces a trade to a respectable franchise.

I can't wait for Bud Adams to pass away having never won a Super Bowl. Screw him and the Titans. The least he could have done is let the Oilers name go to Houston like the Ravens did for the Browns. He didnt' even have the common courtesy to do that for his alleged hometown.

Texans are a joke. The damage they've done is pretty bad. And it will get worse.

Re: All of the Titans bandwagoning is ridiculous [re: LONGHORNman]

The Texans had a GOLDEN opportunity, after hiring their Aggy coach (not a bad hire, or so I thought), to sign one of the greatest college football players ever, who led Madison High School (have you ever seen Madison High School?) to a State Championship game and then proceeded to lead our beloved Texas Longhorns to their first National Championship in 35 years. They blew it. Not only that, they let Vince go to the hated Bud Adams. Only letting him go to the Crackboys would have been more of a kick in the teeth to the city of Houston.

Screw em.

Re: All of the Titans bandwagoning is ridiculous [re: LONGHORNman]

Two issues with this thread:

1. The Titans are doing a hell of a lot better than the Texans? Umm, they're ahead of them by one whole game. If the Texans win Sunday, they'll be tied in the standings. Maybe you guys have different standards than I do, but I wouldn't call that a hell of a lot better.

2. Can I see some evidence that more Houstonians hate the Texans than like them? No, a survey of diehard VY fans on Hornfans isn't evidence.

Funny cause I always see threads on sundays about other former Horns (Ced, Roy, Dawson). We support them too, just like we always have.

VY is fun to watch any day, any time, playing for any team. The Texans can't say that.

GO TITANS!

Us VY Hornfans are just a bunch of simpletons. We never saw Mario Williams play. We don't recognize that VY's game won't translate into the pros. We're blinded by our admiration for VY.

Oh, and before Vince started, the Titans looked like Carr's Texans did in Carr's 3rd [censored] year in the pros.

Carr throws far and sucks.

Ummm, so you think the Texans and Titans are on equal footing right now??? Lets look at how things have been since Vince took over as the starting QB at Tennessee. The Texans are on their way to their fourth or fifth (I can't remember how long they've been around b/c I couldn't give less of a [censored] about them) in a row. [censored] the Texans. They are trash. At least Tennessee has some direction and hope for the future. The Texans don't have [censored].

Re: All of the Titans bandwagoning is ridiculous [re: LONGHORNman]

i was an oilers fan. my first piece of nfl gear was an oilers coat that i would play football in during the winter. my first jersey number in little league was 7 for Pastorini (34 was taken).

bud adams drafted earl campbell.

bud adams signed warren moon (being a black man, i appreciated the fact that bud could look past color in a qb, unlike most of the rest of the nfl owners/gms)

bud adams wanted a new stadium. the astrodome had become a terrible place to play and watch a game (have you ever had to sit behind one of those damn poles at a game? i did. how they even sold those tickets is beyond me.) he didn't get one, so he left. i don't blame bud for leaving, and since i don't personally know him, i don't hate him.

i cheered for the titans to win the SB against the rams. they didn't, but i wanted them to.

then, a badass, new stadium, costing WAY more than what bud was asking for shows up in houston with a team that sucks. but still, i supported the texans. i bought a carr jersey (as a gift for someone else, but still, i bought it in support of the texans). i bought a texans t-shirt and a visor for myself...

i defended david carr's ability (based on what he did at Fresno St.) through four years of ints, running out of bounds for sacks, and fumbles.

then, KNOWING that david carr is merely average (like his good buddy trent dilfer), the texans had the chance to draft VY. i would have been one of those who overpay for a PSL and season tix had they done so.

instead, they passed on a houston and texas legend who is possibly the michael jordan of football, and i have tickets to one game this season.

if the texans don't have the sense to draft Vincent Paul Young over David Carr, why in the hell should i support them, when there is another team i don't mind supporting who has the player i think may become the best football player ever?

i will still support the texans, their terrible draft and trade choices, scout team OL that starts, backup RBs, and garbage QB who can't hold on to the ball.... except when they play michael jordan and the chicago bulls, because he is my michael jordan, but my team picked sam bowie.

That's WTF.

PS - The Texans already lost to the Titans. Since then, the Titans are much better and the Texans are much worse. Good luck with that.

Re: All of the Titans bandwagoning is ridiculous [re: TigOl'Bitties]

If the Texans win Sunday, then yes, they're on equal footing. Your record is what you are in the NFL. I'm sorry if that hurts some of your feelings.

As for the Titans looking like the Texans in David Carr's third year, that's not true. The Texans won 7 games that year and looked solid... that's not how Tennessee looked at all before VY. Also, if it's so cut and dried, can you guys explain to me how the Texans are favored in this game?

Oh, and with the Sam Bowie thing. I said it yesterday; I'll say it today. Sam Bowie wasn't just Sam Bowie because MJ was picked after him. Sam Bowie was Sam Bowie because he [censored] sucked ass. Mario Williams has put consistent pressure on the quarterback, recorded decent sack numbers and led a pass rush that is significantly better than it was a season ago. Can you please explain with evidence ON THE FIELD as to how Mario Williams is Sam Bowie?

Re: All of the Titans bandwagoning is ridiculous [re: LONGHORNman]

And what would the Titans losing on Sunday do to Bud? He's a billionaire so what the Titans do is not going to put a strain on his personal life. The Titans now have VY.

Why do you have to root for a team because their now in your hometown? F the Texans. Go Vince! He delivered us a national championship. I dont understand why you WOULDNT root for Vince and the Titans. Thats like saying you like the newly formed Texans better than the Longhorns. STUPID.

yep. I was an Oilers fan, but watching Vince succeed is worth more to me than hatred of an owner.

sucks for all you bitter Texans fans. oh well. It's pro sports, a business, I'm not a sheep, they have to do more than stick "houston" on it for me to care.

It's too bad you can't be secure enough in your own loyalty for your team that you have to [censored] about everyone else who have other loyalties. Really, it is too bad.

How many Cowboys fans pulled for the Titans against the Cowboys? Not one, I imagine. You pull for your hometown team. Sure, they make mistakes, but they are still your team. Cowboys fans are pulling for evil Roy Williams to do well. What someone does in college shouldn't change your allegiance in the NFL. And Mario Williams isn't Sam Bowie, he's Olajuwon. Reggie Bush is Sam Bowie.

If you're from Houston and you don't pull for the Texans then you are not a fan of your city. Like it or not, pro sports franchises are a matter of civic pride. Go pull for the flavor of the month. Trade last year's Roethlisberger jersey in for a VY jersey, like you traded your Jordan jersey in for a Kobe jersey.

sucks for bitter Texans fans? I just don't really understand this. I'm not bitter at all. I love Vince. I cheer for Vince and the Titans when they aren't playing Houston. I'm a diehard Longhorn fan, and I'm a diehard Texan fan. I've been that way for five years. I'm not sure what's so strange about that.
