*Editor's note: hey, it worked for OU.
OK, so let's talk about what exactly Tech has proven this season...
*chirp*
That's right. Nothing. Their best win was today against an even-more overrated Kansas team that has eye-catching wins over Sam Houston (38-14), Iowa State (35-33.. yes, THAT Iowa State) and Colorado (30-14 - and hey didn't Missouri just score again against them???) Kansas has shown nothing to merit a top 20 ranking, they could easily lose out and will likely end their regular season losing by 30 to Missouri.
There's no question Tech can move the ball. It's also very clear that average teams have had no trouble scoring against them despite claims of a "better" defense. I think some people have a pretty selective memory of Tech giving up 40 points a game in the past or something, because scores of 28 to Kansas State, 31 to Nebraska, 25 to Texas A&M and 21 to Kansas looks pretty much like business as usual to me.
The nature of Tech's offense will always be that if you don't have the personnel to match up and slow them down, they will score massive amounts of points on you. Those scores have no relevance in looking at how they play against teams with good defenses. Good defenses will disrupt, make plays and make things more difficult then a game of back-yard catch, which was what the KU game today was.
I'm not saying they're not good. I'm saying they're not the 8th best team in the country. And while I don't think Texas is going to shut them down next week, I think they'll do enough.

Not scared of them at all. They have the same offense they have every year, and how many times have they beaten us since Leach has been there?

Where'd I say that? Since when does a team have to be horrible for us to beat them on their home field?

Sand Aggy's next 3 games are brutal. This will weed itself out in the next few weeks. Watching Kansas today, I feel much better about playing them on the road this year. I was not impressed at all. Reesing is no Colt and they are not as balanced on offense as I thought. Kansas must have left their season on the field in Norman.
I fully expect Coach Boom to have a great game plan for Tech and for Colt to put together long time consuming drives to keep Tech off the field and for our kinks in the special team to be worked out this week in practice. I also like the fact that Colt won in Lubbock 2 years ago.

The crowd is not going to bother this team
We know how to play these guys - we play 'em every year
We know how to disrupt them and get the QB out of synch or uncomfortable
We will get some pressure on Harrell
I am not convinced their D is that good
They will get their yards
They will get some points
We will get 1-2 picks off Harrell
Our D will bend but not break
We will get 2-3 punts out of them and hold them to a couple of FG's on some drives
We will have long drives that keep their O on the bench, their D on the field for long periods making them tired in the 4th
We will out-athlete them
Horns will win by 7

I don't know, Prodigal.
I thought Okie State was the product of a weak schedule and overrated by about 5-10 spots, but after today, I think their ranking is about right.
I worry about mental fatigue setting in for Texas. It's hard to be sky-high emotionally every single week (while it's pretty damn easy for each opponent to be sky high to play the number one team). I think we saw some of that in 2006 where we won emotional games vs. OU, at Nebraska, at Tech... and then in November, with a top-5 ranking, we just fell flat in a road trip against a mediocre (but wildly fired-up) KSU team.
We're going to have to earn the "W" in Lubbock.

I disagree i think this team will see this as the final leg in a stretch run. Adrenalin will sat in and Tech will go down.

K-State 06 is a great analogy here, except that Tech has the perpetual chip on its shoulder rivalry and is actually a better team than Ron Prince's collection of misfits (who, to their credit, gameplanned the [censored] out of us for two years in a row, no doubt).
No doubt it is going to be a VERY tough game and I think Mack has already told us what word to use for people who think it's going to easy.

1. Our starting QB was knocked out on the first series of the game.
2. Our tailbacks decided to become fumble machines; we gave the ball back to KSU twice deep in our own territory.
3. Our defense had been susceptible all season to play action--remember the Baylor game that year?--and KSU exploited that, and threw in some trick plays to boot. Plus we never seemed to make defensive adjustments that season (Chizik too busy working on his resume).
4. We had a special teams meltdown--hopefully we've already gotten that out of the way this season...
5. I think we just flat overlooked them. Tech is unbeaten and everyone knows what their offense can do, and that this will be a four-hour heartburn-inducing game. Nobody should have trouble getting up for this.
Having said all that, Tech is going to be a VERY tough game.

I feel cautiously optimistic, I too am worried about Texas' ability to get up for another big game. Make no mistakes Texas Tech has earned their ranking, they deserve it, Kansas is NOT over rated, they are well coached too, they played at home, Reesing didn't have a good game and they went down with him. Tech is going to be a very tough game in Lubbock like always......

Harrell has been sacked twice all year. He had all day to throw the ball against Kansas. He put on a clinic. a&m had some success pressuring Harrell in the first half of their game and thus led at the half. HAVE to get pressure on Harrell.

two things that I think are going to be important
Tech is happy about the win over KU whick they believe gave them much needed respect
Texas is pissed off at an ugly win over OSU

WorsterMan,
That was beautiful! I read it out loud while playing a bongo, and I swear it was as good as anything written by any of the Beat Poets. It had a rhythm and flow that was reminiscent of Allen Ginsburg.
Nice job!
Also, I liked what it said.

Tech just drilled KU on the road, a team that hung with OU pretty well in Norman. UT didn't exactly manhandle OU on a neutral field, and UT hasn't really been tested yet on the road.
All this he-said she-said stuff is prologue. Tech can easily beat UT next weekend.

Tceh is good, but they also relatively one dimensional compare to osu. Muschamp will have an easier time scheming against tceh because he can now focus on the pass defense without having to fear tceh beating us on the run - they will try to run, but will not beat us with their running game. If our D make them earn their every points and punish their receivers along the way, our O will score enough points to win. I am glad we are playing them now as oppose to playing them earlier in the season. Our secondary has gained plenty of experiences in the last few games, and our injured will heal in time to add depth to a fast pace game.
We're Texas
