Scipio's TX/osu post mortem

The Link
Make no mistake, we brought our A game. The notion that we did not implies that we’d look different if we played them again or that effort was lacking. We wouldn’t. It wasn’t.

Re: Scipio's TX/osu post mortem [re: Austin180]

I don't agree that we are overachieving. If were better than ou we should be undefeated. Where's overachieving? We're kicking the s... out of everyone except osu and that should have been 42-31...both teams fumbled inside the 10 and Colt's last play should have been a TD...where's overachieving?? Colt's having a possible Heisman season...where's overachieving???

We'll beat tech by 14...is that still overachieving????

I retract my piece. I'm not cut out for dialog, and never could swap one-liners, and a definite loser after two exchanges. It was very unlike me to directly or indirectly criticize a journalist, hence I would never be able to be on Around the Horn.

I'm a great admirer of Scipio from a long way back and didn't realize I what I was doing. Sorry about that. I had a thought, but somehow it came out poorly.

Hu:

In reply to:

I have to say the mechanics and wordsmithing of it was too much about the writing of the piece and not enough about the content of the piece.

I bow to you in terms of content as evidenced by your quality bear attack metaphors.

In reply to:

The popular journalism is about what that piece was all about -- others since the game ended have aimed at about the same delivery

Not really. My stated contention is that we played very well and won the game. In fact, I specifically point out that we brought our A game. The recurrent meme post-game was that we struggled and weren't playing our best.

In reply to:

This struggling defensive effort did what it had to do: it did not let the bear tear the Longhorn's hearts out the way an Ohio State tight end did two years ago, and the way another tight end, this one for K-State, did a year ago.

Anthony Gonzalez wasn't a TE. And Jordy Nelson wasn't a TE. I'm pretty sure you don't even know what a TE is. We did get your first bear analogy though, so awesome.

In reply to:

And, get this... after the game, Roy Miller was mad. I think he's still mad!

OMG! You're in trouble, Tech!

In reply to:

BUT... get this now... all you clever journalists.... that effort by Texas was far better than Sunday morning pundits are making it out to be. What happened was that a stellar effort by the Longhorns prevented a crazy grizzly from coming into camp and tearing the freaking place to shreds.

Bear attack #2! Who will stop the crazy grizzly from coming into camp? Not the clever pundits! They are as unskilled with Bowie knife as with bo staff.

In reply to:

It's like this Horns group is blamed for not throwing a Bowie knife into the heart of the bear at 50 yards; dead on, one throw, dropped in this tracks. End of story. No muss, no fuss.

In my experience that really is the best way to stop a crazy grizzly attack. So, we disagree there.

In reply to:

The entire afternoon amounted to this: Four... count that... FOUR Texas touchdown drives, all over 80 yards -- two were over 90 yards.... together tallied four touchdowns and this highly skilled and fanatical Oklahoma State team could only tally Three touchdowns for the afternoon.

Granted. But what we want to know is how many touchdowns did we score against the highly skilled fanatical Grizzly-Cowbears of Teh Oklahoma St? Two? Out with it.

In reply to:

Four to Three. Plus the other guys get a 3 point field goal. But, 4 to 3, in touchdowns, was the game.

You're good. Real good. That math checks out everyone.

In reply to:

OSU had two kickoff returns of 52 yds each. That means twice after we kicked off, they had the ball on our end of the field

The math checks out again. You've really hit some angles no one has thought about.

In reply to:

I'm more than happy that this game will disguise how truly good the Texas Longhorns are. The remaining four opponents are in for one helluva surprise.

Excellent point. I think the #1 team in the country will now be able to sneak up on some people based on this win over a Top 10 opponent. We should disguise ourselves as a bowie knife.

In reply to:

And that includes the Texas Tech this coming Saturday night.

Watch out the Texas Techs. Of Raiders. Roy Miller is mad! He's going to SCORE FOUR - 4- four! TDS like a crazed grizzly from his TIGHT end position.

One of the best entertainment/sports/comedy venues there are. Take it for what it is and it is actually fun. They are not trying to break ground or be journalists so I think it is unfair to rail them for it. They do what they do with flair, flair is good. You use flair because you want to, not because you HAVE to. There is no minimum for flair.

I have amended my post (above). I chickened out halfway down Scipio's response and couldn't "bear" to read it.

Hu, I missed your original response, but in all seriousness, I'm not sure it would be possible to top a Flava Flav at the Source Awards metaphor.

I mean, I'm about to cancel my sub to the Statesman, but if Kirk Bohls could pull that out of his ass just once a week, I'd reconsider.

Or not.

But still, that's funny stuff.

We don't have anyone on this board worthy enough to dare respond or heaven forbid differ in opinion with Mr. Scipio's genius. So please everyone just bow down and pay homage to the greatness that is before us. All hail Mr. Scipio please continue on and pay no attention to the mindless chatter wasting the precious air you have to share.
