Sorry, RickysRun, but I would like to introduce you to Howard Schnellenberger, Dennis Erickson, Frank Beamer, Bo Pelini, Tom Osborne for starters. Saban & Petrino are mere amateurs compared to them.

No, no, no. Barry Switzer takes the cake!! There's a reason that Will Rogers never met Barry Switzer, LOL!

Re: Petrino had his side piece on his harley... [re: BigWill]

86, I hated recruiting against Switzer, but I've never met a coach that cared more about his players than he did and still does.

That said, I have never met a coach that I would trust more in a business deal than Switzer. There are damn few people I would make this statement about (fewer than five), but I would trust Barry Switzer with 100 cents of my last dollar.

While the venom spewed in Austin about Barry is well earned in a lot of situations, meet the guy, sit down with him, and then make your unfounded statements.

Before you blow a gasket because you don't know [censored] about him, I am the guy who trademarked a t-shirt that said - "The last person who trusted Barry Switzer was Mrs Larry Lacewell".

Re: Petrino had his side piece on his harley... [re: BigWill]

So Barry Switzer is personable when you talk to him? So was Charles Manson, but he had a few bad traits people didn't see until it was too late.
Back to the subject, this seems par for the course up at Arkansas. I bet they don't care, because he wins football games. He probably really cares about his players, too. And his personal assistants and former volleyball players.

Re: Petrino had his side piece on his harley... [re: BigWill]

Unless they're absolutely forced into it, the powers-that-be up in Fayette Nam won't can Petrino, but will do everything they can to sweep the whole thing under the rug as expeditiously as possible. He may not be a candidate for husband, or motorcyclist, of the year, but Petrino wins against everybody but 'Bama and has made the swine relevant again. That's pretty much all you need up in the hills to hang on to your job. His new assistant??? She'll be out of luck, unless she can find a new job at the Clinton Presidential Library.

Amazing that he found a woman in Arkansas who didn't look like Doris Ziffel.

The saga continues-now Arkansas has announced they are changing their fight song to the John Lennon classic, Give Piece a Chance.

Aside from the affair with someone young enough to be his daughter (maybe even granddaughter in Arkansas), it's that he quite possibly hired this person to work for the University because of their relationship.

After all the negative publicity, I'm not sure Arkansas has any choice but to lay down their bike and walk away from this.

At any other University he's done. But, this is Arkansas, where the family trees don't fork.

Rick Pitino admitted to having sex with a woman in a restaurant and didn't get fired. What may cost Petrino his job is giving the girl her job. ESPN had a brief interview with a sports-talk show host in Arkansas and he said the calls have been overwhemingly in favor of keeping Petrino.

That and he lied and tried to cover it up.

Re: Petrino had his side piece on his harley... [re: BigWill]

This is Arkansas...he gave her a job, a title, a ride (literally and figuratively), and she's not kinfolk (not that that would matter)...Petrino wins, the fans up there want to keep him, and the athletic director wants to keep his job, so Petrino will keep HIS job, with nothing worse than a public reprimand and the current leave of absence with pay. This is Arkansas...not the real world.

Re: Petrino had his side piece on his harley... [re: BigWill]

1) The woman did not get her job because she was screwing Petrino. She got her job because she was a graduate of the school, a letterman, and was engaged to one of the coaches.

2) It doesn't make a damn what the fans want or what the AD wants or what the president of the school wants. It's Arkansas! It matters what a few people in power want, starting with Johnny Tyson and John Hunt. Check out Tyson, The Pennacle, and Cross Church.

It took very powerful people to remove Coach Broyles from the athletic department, just like it took powerful people to remove Coach Royal. In Washington County, that power starts at Tyson Foods and JD Hunt Trucking, then moves to Murphy Oil, the mattress man and restaurant owner.

I only stated what appears to be a possibility. After all, Petrino reportedly did personally hire her.

Then again, maybe Bobby had the Viagra working and it was a purely physical attraction that led her to forsake her engagement. I wonder how that is working out for her?

Re: Petrino had his side piece on his harley... [re: BigWill]

I read the young woman was engaged. I'm not sure what was going on -- consensual? a quasi consensual hey you owe me one for the job -- or a pretty much innocent ride on the Harley gone awry? I guess we ought to try to think the best of these two while the facts come to light. Sure Petrino was lying -- but maybe what was he trying to cover up wasn't so bad?

The "woman" was engaged to a person involved in Arkansas Athletics as well.

If there's a sympathetic figure in all of this, it's the ex-fiance, Morgan. At least he cut his losses quickly and publicly. I still say Petrino losing his job is much to do over nothing. This is Arkansas we're talking about here...it ain't happening.
