Petrino fired

Per joe schad.

I'd be mildly surprised if Diaz wasn't on the short list.

If I were Arky, my list would start and stop with Malzahn.

I have a few Arkie buddies and all would be shocked if malzahn came back. He's not thought of too highly up there. Stranger things have happened.

And I don't say the Diaz thing to get under yalls skin. If I'm an ad looking for an up and comer that list begins and ends with Diaz.

Re: Petrino fired [re: PropositionJoe]

Good for Arky if they can him. Listening to the Drive, Ketch mentioned about a sign held at a rally for Petrino saying "Whats wrong with scoring in the off season?" My question to that person would be, "if a coworker or a friend did the same thing with your wife or fiancee, would you still be holding up that sign?"

So Petrino has betrayed Louisville, Atlanta Falcons, and now his wife.

Actually aggy has the most worry. Sumlin would be a perfect fit for the pig people, and the pig position is quite a bit more attractive than aggy.

Jerry would write the buy-out check in a minute just to piss aggy off.

supposedly arkie wanted to keep him but petrino wouldnt agree to any punishment terms. if so then man, what a douche he is.

had he just diddled the asst he would have been fine. lying to his boss and the cops did him in.

there are also rumors that there was some malfeasance in the actual hiring of the side piece too.

fun to watch.

I'm not surprised. People in power will tolerate some indiscretion as a cost of winning, but they rarely will take being misled and lied to.

i make it a policy to never say never, but there is a better likelihood of me becoming the arkansas head coach than this happening.

i'll let you know if i get a phone call.

So far Diaz has been a good coordinator, but I wouldn't annoint him HC at any school, much less Arkysaw. Not sure why so many folks believe that a great coordinator automatically translates to great HC material. Many good coordinators have fallen flat on their collective faces as HCs. Not saying that Diaz wouldn't make a good HC, but he's still learning the coordinator position.

Re: Petrino fired [re: PropositionJoe]

shocking, but it sounded to me like the 20k he gave her might have been the tipping point. This AD is very shrewd, imo. He can rightfully claim he took the high road, if the next coach doesn't work out, and become an AD somewhere else where football doesn't matter quite as much.

I wonder how fast she will be offered a settlement and/or let go?

This 20k might explain why she went in hiding. She didn't want to risk having to answer any questions. I wonder if she is considered a public figure? I ask because her life will almost certainly become miserable if she lasts into the football season. I can picture a couple of scenarios, one of which is that she could survive the season, keep a copy of every nasty email she will get when the hogs go about 8-4 or 9-3, and then resign, claiming hostile work environment.

I think she is smarter to get Gloria Allred on the phone right now, and negotiate a settlement to get out of the state as fast as she can. Something tells me she might not be smart enough to realize she can't work at that job again.

I really like the position the AD is in right now. He's the winner in all of this, unless his next hire has moral issues as well. Even if the next coach is a 5-7, 6-6 type coach, the AD can just fire him after four years, and move on to the next hire, assuming he keeps his job. If the Piggy boosters get rid of him, well, he was too good for them anyway.

Sumlin is a sooner at heart which means he owes allegiance to the highest bidder. The pig people feel they have finally come in from the wilderness caused by their ill advised move from the SWC, and Sumlin knows the hopeless position he is facing with a team that was never competitive in the Big 12 and now is in the SEC.

If given a chance and Jerry feels that Sumlin is the best they can do, he will see that it happens.

I am not surprised.. but what a HC disgrace for this program. Petrino is a lying, low-life scumbag. I am NO fan of Arky, but hawgs, by gawd you can do better than this guy. Now having said that, you might give some thought to Greg Davis... I hear he is tan, rested and ready... oh, and stay away from Diaz or anyone else on Mack's staff

Re: Petrino fired [re: PropositionJoe]

I've seen some people praising Jeff Long extravagantly for canning Petrino.

I'd be more impressed if he hadn't tried to hang on to Petrino by offering to let him keep his job if he accepted some "penalties". It doesn't strike me that Long was that happy to give the easy rider his walking papers.

Reference a replacement, I doubt it's gonna be Malzahn. He didn't have a good parting of the ways when he left his assistants' job with the swine, and he's just getting into his first college head coaching job at arky state. There are some coaches out there with championship credentials that are available and have SEC backgrounds. Phil Fulmer and Butch Davis are just two names that come to mind. Concerning speculation about Diaz, I'd be real surprised if arky goes for an assistant coach as their new head coach.
