Well this is it. Looking back and thinking of all the high school days, the Coaches recruiting visits and trips, the official signing of going to UT, the first day of showing up at UT for incoming freshman, and now four years later. A thousand things rush to mind just thinking back. One thing for sure these four years have flashed by far to quickly. Great times and a few bad times, but when you put them all in a basket - it takes all those things together to grow, be successful, and achieve. I want to thank you for answering the call everytime there was a need, whether it was asked from the Coaches, friends, and family. The countless times you were asked to get autograph balls and hats for charity events, the scronging for an extra ticket or two so that your family/friends could get into the game, and even the times that you helped out at the Children School for the Deaf. You were always willing to step forth and help those that were in need and less fortunate than you. Thank you for playing football at UT and doing your best. You and your teammates really must realize that you are now a part of Texas History and that you did what you set out to do. To give it your best shot and be able to walk away at times knowing that tomorrow will always be a better day no matter how good it gets. Thank you for the oppurtunity to meet the parents of your teammates and share good times at Tailgates. There is nothing in this world any better than to have a good tailgate with all the fixins and share that with players and parents and even passerbyers that were willing to stop by and seek autographs from you guys. Man-- the jambalya's, the gumbo's, the BBQ's, the fish fry's--they were all great. On the other hand I will always remember the time when everyone was departing from Cole's funeral at his family burial site. In the quietness of the evening before departing - all you guys hanging up a "Hook Em" hand sign and singing out that wonderful sound of "The Eyes of Texas"....I will always remember the sound of that song that day. So will your football brother Cole.
Four bowl games, countless wins, and getting a quality education could all help measure success. However it is the heart of a man after all those achievements that measures true success. Some people handle true success and some can't. That is just the way life is. You have shown me that you can handle "true" sucess and for that I am greatful.
I say to you Chad to walk proudly and hold your head up high. Be ready to tell them that you played football for Mack Brown, the Tim Brewster's, the Greg Davis's at the University of Texas. Be ready to share your stories proudly for you will be asked about it for the rest of your life. And last but not least, thank you for honoring me with being my son. You along with Homer III, Hans, Hannah, Zachary, and our little Angel Elizebeth make me proud. I will always proudly hang a "Hook Em" sign and remember.................Dad

Chad, I don't know you well enough to tell you too much, but a friend of mine met you at a charity event, and told me how nice of an individual you are. I've also read stories about you, and you represent everything we could want in a student-athlete. Thanks for doing our team and University proud. Good luck in your future endeavors, and Hook 'em!

There are some people you just meet and you know right away that they are good people.
I am damn proud to tell people that I know Chad Stevens.
Homer - It was good seeing you at the Baylor game. I don't know how a father could ask for more in a son than Chad provides and you are a big reason for that.

Thanks, Chad - You epitomize, imo, the best of the Longhorn Spirit in the University of Texas football program.
You have placed the team ahead of yourself throughout your football career at UT -- playing whatever position (FB or TE) at which you were most needed, even though the changes (that seemed to happen almost every season) probably diminished your opportunity to receive more attention from the fans and the media for your contributions to the success of the team.
But a lot of us noticed, Chad -- not only the devastating blocks, but also the pass receptions like the 20-yarder against OU (in your sophomore year), the PAT/FG snaps, your team leadership, and that great touchdown catch (of the laser from Chris Simms) against North Carolina this season in the "Mack Brown Bowl".
Great work, Chad -- both on and off the field. Your activities with PALS and your visits to the Austin Children's Hospital are examples of the many contributions you have made in areas other than football during your stay at UT.
The Horns will miss your presence next Fall, but we're glad you and your teammates in the exceptional '99 recruiting class restored the University of Texas football program to the standing it enjoyed in the "good old days" -- and got the Horns back in business at the national level.
Can't thank you enough for all of that, Chad -- but hope these few words help express our appreciation for your good work.
Best of luck with your future endeavors.
Hook 'em.

What a class young man you are! It seems just like yesterday that I was fixing you up with Halliburton for your summer job.
You and your father Homer are just outstanding folks. I know that you will succeed in whatever you decide to do in life.
