If they DQ him, they have to DQ the Canadian who took gold. His hand was all over #2 who fell, no different than what Ohno did.

Home cooking. They won't do nothing. It will be controversial though.

Korea should have been DQd in the relay for the same thing when they shove China out of the way.... and oh, looky there, China even fell down.
Also, hmmm, wasn't it Canada that ran into Ohno in the 1000 and made him trip and lose his medal position? he ended up getting one anyway when Korea took themselves out but Canada should have been DQd.

This short track speed skating is ridiculous. They are so close together that collisions and touching are gonna happen all the time.
Seems like everyone should be DQed. Either enforce the rules or eliminate the damn sport.

No. He pushed the guy and the call was entirely correct. If it was the other way around y'all would screaming for a DQ.

hornfanuk, you are missing the point of the thread.
the threshold is not whether or not a skater pushes another.
as it has been established that there were SEVERAL other incidences where a pushing skater(usually a canuck) was not dq'd.

And actually, he did not push the skater. He did have his hand on the skater, but when you watch the replay you can clearly see the skater's ankle buckled on the turn which is what caused him to fall.
However, it's like the above poster said, the Canadian skater who took gold did the exact same thing that Ohno was DQ'd for in the same race. But even though the skater the Canadian touched also fell, the Canadian was not DQ'd. Oh, and the "judge" was also the head Canadian official!

You guys weren't even watching the same race. Hamelin didn't even come close to touching Sung. Sung fell when his skate turned around, and Hamelin was the fair gold winner.
Rules are rules, and you can't try to gain inside position while touching the guy in front of you. Whether or not others should have been DQ'ed in other races is a different story, but in the 500 final, it was pretty obvious.

Whether it was the right call or not or whether non calls that should have been made is not relevant now because it isn't going to change things. The thing is the official making the final call should have been from a neutral country rather than one from the country of one of the main competitors. That would have increased the credibility somewhat. It will always be wondered if this official was biased.

Horns11...I was watching the same race. In fact I re-watched it about twenty times. The Canadian absolutely had his hand on the Korean's thigh, as Onoh did on the other Canadian. What made it worse, was when Hamelin pulled his hand back, he hooked Sung's arm, which caused him to slide out. Nothing will change, but there should have been more than one disqualification...or none.

Sung was falling before Hamelin even got near him. Hamelin pulled his arm back when he saw that Sung was going down. Just watched it again on the Olympics web site.

I just went back and watched it, as well...I'm not sure what you are not seeing, but Hamelin's hand was definitely on the Korean's hip when his skates came out from under him.

Just changing the subject a little...but Katherine Reutter just seemed like a girl I want to buy a beer for. Something about her just really charmed me. Katherine Reutter gets her thigh signed by Stephen Colbert
