Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: FWHORN]

that would be sweet to not have them compete in the premier track and field event of the state/region. it would serve them right.

aggies give farmers a bad name

I'm hoping we can at least get a split in the Indoor Track and Field points. With the injuries we have had the Aggies may claim the point in baseball for the first tiime since the competition begin. I won't feel happy until we get the final two points to retain the trophy.

Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: FWHORN]

Our men's tennis team lost a close 4-3 match to the Aggies in a neutral and fortunately non conference game. This shows this point can go either way. The one that counts is Austin on April 14, 2012. Let's hope we can win that one. Scary times indeed and brings to the point that it isn't over till it's over.

Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: FWHORN]

Two important points on the line this coming Friday and Saturday in Men and Women's Indoor Track and Field at CS. Those that can please go to CS and support our teams. The Aggies will be definite favortie to take the Men's point but I think our Ladies have a good chance to get this point but it will be close. It would be great if we could get a split in this event. Go Horns!

Men's tennis scored a 4-1 victory over A&M at the ITA Indoor Championships this past weekend. A positive sign that they are capable of scoring Texas one more point.

Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: FWHORN]

That is great news Tempest and hopefully that is the Horn team that shows up when they meet in Austin. I hope our Women's Basketball team will fire it up when they meet the Aggies in Austin next month. A split in the Indoor Track and Field points would be most helpful this weekend. And I am more encouraged about the baseball and softball teams.

Bill:

Not to be the pessimist here, but you are encouraged by the Longhorn Baseball team? I think this is going to be a very long baseball season.

I hope the Longhorn baseball team will start playing better soon but right now I am concerned with the Men and Indoor Track and Field points this weekend. Anyone that can please submit updates. The events conclude tomorrow. It would be great to get at least a split in these points.

Big 12 has sites with live results. In track, women are dead last with 2 points. Men are first with 18.5, but many events to go.

Men's swimming is way ahead. Women are behind ATM, but plenty of events remaining. The ATM women's team must have 100 members - they have multiple performers in every event just like Nebraska once featured as a means to win conference, a practice promoted by AD Byrnes.

Byrnes brought the practice and other efforts to ATM whose minor sports have surpassed many of UT's under the complacent gaze of Deloss and Chris.

Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: Branyon]

Thank you for the update Branynon. Can you tell us how many points the Aggie men and women had today?
It is a disappointment because even though I favored the Aggies in both events I was hoping that we could get a split especially with the women but it looks like it isn't going to happen.
We have a good lead but it has the potential to evaporate with the spring sports. We still have to fight to get the trophy and I still feel it is going to be close.
I know what you mean about Nebraska because they used that method against us to win the Big 12 Championship in Women's Outdoor Track and Field in 2006 but we still went on to win the NC and I would trade an NC for a Big 12 Championship any day.

Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: FWHORN]

I would rather win an NC that this trophy any day. But I still would like to win this one or at least retain the cup this year. In this thread my thoughts are however more inclined to getting points for the trophy since that is the title of the thread.

The Men's Basketball team has been criticized lately and I hope they change things and get a playoff spot. But one thing that they did to help us in this years competition and have a good unexpected lead was get the sweep of the Aggies and the whole point. Before the season I expected the sweep to go the other way. Same with football but they fought back to win the game and give us the point.
The Women's team have been a great surprise because they had lost 11 straight games to the Aggies and I was sure they would add two more but they have already won the first game and got at least a split. Even if they don't win the game in Austin they have exceeded my expectations and made a contribution in this sport.

Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: FWHORN]

Women's track is far behind. Men's track is in first place, but ATM will outscore them badly in the track events. In field, not it appears Texas had not a single high jumper qualify. ATM has too many sprinter and relay points ahead and only stellar performances by the few men's qualifiers and a complete sweep of the weights give Texas a chance.

Sheroid Evans did not finish his race, I hope not due to injury.

Men's swimming is far ahead, but the Aggie women are kicking ass and I don't think Texas has the number of point scorers left in the meet to catch up. The aggettes are solid with plenty of NC competitors and real depth - too many bodies scoring points.

Thank you Branyon and please keep the updates coming. I expected the Aggies to dominate the points in all the Track and Field events but had hope that maybe we would get at least one point in them but I guess it is not meant to be.

Swimming points were already decided earlier in the year - Horns won both. Only the m & w indoor track points on the line today.

Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: FWHORN]

That is a good question Lake and I don't know what happened either. But the Aggies swept the Indoor Track and Field points and now the score is

Texas 7 1/2 A&M 3

The next even will be for 1/2 point as the Horns take on the Aggies in Women's basketball in Austin on March 4th at 1 P.M.

After that it continues in April.

Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: FWHORN]

The aggette swim team had mulitple qualifiers in many events in which Texas had one or two. Their roster has about a half dozen more swimmers.

Texas outrecruited ATM last year and evenly the year before.

This season ATM has committments from 5 of the 2012 top 100 while Texas has 1. Unless Backins brings in some foreign swimmers for the next class, Texas will have a down recruiting year.

The ATM move to the SEC should help them because is is a much stronger swimming conference with 4 of the top 10 women's teams.

Big 12 swimming is lousy and with ATM's departure became a one school conference. Pac 12, Big 11 and SEC dominate the top 20 rankings for men and women.

Georgia, Cal Berkeley and Stanford women have been cleaning up in recruiting for several years and Texas will have a tough time competing with them.

Re: Last Ever State Farm Lonestar Showdown [re: FWHORN]

This Sunday March 4th the second game half point is on the line in Women's Basketball as the Horns host the Aggies. The Horns have already got at least a split in the competion which is more than I expected. The Aggies will be favored of course but if the Horns play as well as they have been doing lately they might pull off the upset. Plus I am sure there will be much support for them as the game is in Austin. I hope so. The competition will not resume until April 14 when the Tennis team hosts the Aggies in Austin.

I still think that since softball involves three games it will be like baseball with 2 wins out 3 getting the point. I wish they would decide but the Horns, Aggies and State Farm are dragging their feet on this one. This needs to be decided before the games are played not after.

I will post more when I know who for sure gets this 1/2 point. Hopefully they will decide soon on the softball matter even though there is no hurry - it can be done right now or yesterday.
