For those that posted on this and have PM'd people looking for the thread, we thought it was best to hold this until all of Melanie's family had been notified as well as certain other people (so that they did not find out via this website). Now that those people have been informed (to my knowledge), please post your remembrances of Melanie.
As for me, I remember Melanie's first tailgates with us. She came to both football and some baseball tailgates long before she started posting on HornFans. Like many friends, she seemed to find some sort of enjoyment and fulfillment out of this community. We'll miss her presence at the tailgates, the happy hours, and in our online community.

Last time I taked to her was last Friday when she called me for directions to come and meet up with all y'all at the HF happy hour. She loved getting to meet up and hang out with all her fellow Longhorn fans, and that night was no different--she was excited to be surrounded by fellow Orangebloods again!! (She called me for directions b/c I always gave her [censored] about living here so long and still not knowing her way around Austin, as I'm the one that found her first apartment for her.)

You left us WAY too early sweet friend.
The last time I saw Mel was this past weekend. She was so excited about the Spring Game that she started sending out emails about it 2 weeks before. We all had plans to meet for dinner Friday night and of course she needed Durkee for directions (as he mentioned in his post) after that we met Downtown for some good ol' fashioned trouble making.... I think we were successful Before heading back to Dallas, a group of us went to brunch together and had a fantastic time full of stories, laughter and genuine good times. I remember one story that she told about taking her son to the ER.... they had just begun using the Dermabond glue instead of sutures and the doctor had an "uh oh" and glued a surgical glove to her poor little son's head. The poor thing had to go weeks with a piece of latex glued to his forehead. I am thankful that I had that time with her and will remember her as the adorable little lady with spunk and lots of sparkle. You could always count on Mel to tell it like it is. We'll miss you Mel!!!

I too had never met Melanie in person. Had exchanged some pms with her back when I was going through my divorce and she always had a way of lifting my spirit. Her insightfulness was a wonderful quality.
The many eloquent posters on this board have detailed all of this wonderful woman's attributes already and I certainly echo those thoughts as well.
I too have never felt a sense of loss like this from someone I had never met in person and it is tough to make sense of all the emotions that I and others are feeling right now. I guess the one thing that comes to mind here is that all of us are real people behind these handles. Real people with real emotions. From seeing the things that Melanie posted on this board, I believe that if we were to all somehow become more sensitive to each other and care a littl e more deeply for each other in her memory, she will smile down on us from her heavenly perch.
Lets make Melanie smile forever by living our lives a little better than we have before.
I pray that God himself will wrap his loving arms around Melanie for eternity.

Count me as another who is shocked and saddened over the loss of someone I never even met, yet feel I know from the many posts on this BBS. It is especially heartbreaking after reading her posts about her son's transfer dilemma.
After reading this thread, my wife and I just had a conversation about how much the Internet can mean to people - it's crazy that a network of computers can mean so much. It's responsible for my job (I work in online news), my wife and I met via match.com, and we both have our forums we visit regularly where we talk about all kinds of subjects with people who we get to know just via their posts.
I feel better for having known Loree just through her insights on this board. I hope her pain has vanished, though it's tough for those of us who appreciated her presence around here.

Like a lot of other people on this thread, I've never met Loree beyond reading her posts here. I don't even think she and I have exchanged words in a thread, let alone PMs. She was a complete and total stranger to me beyond knowing her username (I've never even looked up her profile).
But this is very sad news to me. She was always one of those posters that, although she posted frequently, had something to add to every thread. She was a very insightful poster.
It's strange sometimes how we effect people without even knowing it. I will always remember her and it's obvious that she will be sorely missed.

How tragic.

wow. shocking. RIP Melanie. I can't believe the thud I heard when I read about this. I was just getting to know her through myspace and had infact written to her on fri. I was wondering why she hadn't responded yet. This is just unbelievable.
We'll miss you Loree. prayers and thoughts.

I too want to express how much I will miss Loree's presence here. I don't post much, but I do read to keep up to date on all sorts of things, be entertained, and to stay connected to the Longhorn community. Loree was one of those people who had great insight and humor on almost every topic and who I most wanted to meet if I ever made it to a tailgate, but will now never have chance. My prayers and condolences to her family and friends.

That's just horrible news. As others have stated in their laments, this is not really like any other board i've seen. The fact that so many of the posters actually meet one another face to face at various events, makes it much more intimate than your average "faceless" board.
Even for those that don't make the events, so many of them post on such a regular basis that you start to remember little things about them, and these little things build into something you know and expect.

1st, I've lurked around for quite a while, and really don't contribute to those threads which obviously are from LHF sponsers. When I can pay my way, then I'll contribute ot this site and feel free to hijack, etc. -perhaps-
Loree, I believe was a sponser.
I have no more words other than those which have already been said over her death.
At that, I commend everyone who 'witness' for this person -
I'm not a dyed in the wool religious person, but witnessing is, I believe, born from basic human ethics. Everyone might agree that in this Keep up with the Jones's, Dog-eat-dog, if we can't at least 'represent' for another person, then what's it all worth? Money?, power?, ego?
So its Sun. morning, I got coffee and cruised by, and this topic got me weak kneed.
Thanks

Wow, sad... I just checked out her myspace profile too, which makes it even sadder... And I didn't know her either, but she had replied to alot of my posts in the last few years. She always seemed like a very wise older woman who had her stuff together...

I remember the first time I met her. She was so friendly and funny. She went on and on about her son and how proud she was of him. She just was so loving and, of course sweet.
She will be missed greatly here. Prayers for all her family and friends. They are all in my prayers.

Melanie was a true character. After reading her posts for a couple of years, I finally met her in person last summer and spent fun times with her whether at tailgates, hornfans happy hours, 6th street, and other parties.
Her wit, sense of humor, and as others have said her "tell it like it is" attitude was a very refreshing, humrous, and fantastic addition to any gathering. She was a very strong, independent, and extremely unique woman.
Prayers for her family, especially her children.

She is one of the few posters where I actually thought to myself "I'd like to meet her." It is not that I DON'T want to meet others or that I would have been up to no damn good. I'm married to a great wife and have two great kids. I can't even remember what caused me to think the thought about meeting her.
God speed to her friends and her family.

I met Melanie for the 1st time at the Spring Tailgate and we clicked like we were friends for years - as she seemed to be friends with everyone she met. She was outgoing, had a great personality and sense of humor.
My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
