Recruiting tidbit on Seferian-Jenkins
By Randy Riggs | Saturday, July 24, 2010, 01:10 PM
Austin Seferian-Jenkins of Gig Harbor, Wash., regarded by many as the nation’s top-rated tight end prospect in the 2011 recruiting class, is thought to be leaning toward Texas. A moment today at the Gridiron Kings 7-on-7 tournament in Orlando, Fla., did nothing to diminish that speculation.
Recruiting guru Gerry Hamilton of 247Sports.com posted this on his Twitter feed (@GerryH247sports): “Group of Longhorns just got together for a picture at Gridiron Kings. Seferian-Jenkins in the pic. All with Horns flying.”
Seferian-Jenkins and his mother are scheduled to make an unofficial visit to Austin on Aug. 6-7, the same weekend the Longhorns report back to school for the start of fall drills. It wouldn’t be surprising to see an offer extended, and accepted, around that time.
Other Texas pledges at the Gridiron Kings tournament are defensive backs Quandre Diggs and Josh Turner, linebackers Chet Moss and Kendall Thompson and wide receivers Jaxson Shipley and Miles Onyegbule..

Edited to include the Texas commits in the picture...

that's a cool pic. seven good-looking longhorns. almost. maybe. keep those fingers crossed.
as-j is big but not heavy-built. gerry hamilton says austin told him he is weighing in at 265. right now i don't see why he can't be a standout at tight end. if his body changes in college, he might be a prime candidate at tackle, which, of course, pays much better in the league than te, but with his agility and hands and blocking ability, i see him as a really big tight end prospect right now. he and mj could conceivably make one of the best te tandems in recruiting history if they both pan out like they look like they are capable of.
look at that pic. moss (6-1), diggs (5-10), thompson (6-2), turner (5-11), seferian-jenkins (6-7), shipley (6-0), onyegbule (6-4). (heights the avgs of the 3 major svcs.) don't those heights look about right?
interesting that shipley was not originally chosen but is there as a replacement, BUT he's already being singled out as one of the leaders. that poor kid, like his bro, is going to suffer from weak expectations his whole career.
