Major--This is one of those times where I get disappointed with words, because there aren't words enough to thank you and wish you every good thing. All of you seniors, especially ones such as yourself who saw where we were in '97, should know how much we owe you for the excitement you've given us, for the restoration of pride and recognition of Texas football, and for the manner with which you've conducted yourselves. And on that last count, you stand out. You brought a lot of things into--or back to--our program that we hadn't seen in a long time or ever, and we're grateful. The record books will tell only part of your story--I hope we get the chance to tell the rest. Best wishes, and God bless.

Major, thanks for all your hard work and dedication in keeping the winning Longhorn tradition alive. We know you have the smarts and the class to succeed in everything you do, regardless of what path you take.
Thanks for the memories! You were a fun player to watch. We are looking forward to seeing you pass along your love for the game to future Longhorn QBs - we hope you're looking forward to it too!
Congratulations on your graduation. Trust us when we say life gets easier when you're an alum.
PS - Thanks for the pic you took with me and my friend Karen at the Mizzou game. That was the first "real" road game I'd been to in 5+ years and I was so impressed with how nice you were to all the fans who were there.

The University of Texas has been blessed with a great number of tremendous football players. Only a handful have written their names in the record books and in the fans hearts like you have. You have had some of the great moments of the program associated with your deeds. You have shown greatness on the field and class off. You have been a team leader and a team player for you whole career.
What else can I say Major, but thanks.
HOOK EM!

Major,
There are not enough words to say thank you for all that you have done. I wish you the best in your future and fully expect that you will be successful in all that you do.
I was in LA for your first appearance in a game and will be there Saturday against Kansas to see you the last time at DKR. Thanks again.

I will never forget the big comeback win against OU in 1999. What an exciting first half, after getting behind by 17 and tying it up. I use pics from that game for my wallpaper. Then putting them away in the second half was amazing. I cannot imagine how exhausted you must have been. I was spent. That was me with the cowbell shouting GO MAJOR! We know from how you've handled yourself that you are a man of character that we can all admire. You bring credit to The University. Thanks for the memories of all the victories I know we wouldn't have had without you. Best wishes for a successful career.

Major,
I remember sitting there in the Rose Bowl and seeing Richard come off the field holding his hand, and then hearing Bill Shoening describe a little later on the radio what was wrong with Walton. At that moment, I thought "Well, there goes the season -- our starting QB (the only experienced one we have) -- is hurt badly."
Little did I know that was going to be the start of an amazing set of seasons in which you would set 40 UT records and lead UT to three straight 9-win seasons -- truly a resurrection of UT football after a long drought.
I suppose my favorite play during your career at UT was your 97 yard pass play to Wane against OU on that nice sunny day. That was a game breaker and an incredibly exciting play to watch. It's rivaled only by that game winning pass to Wane in Lincoln. An absolutely astounding pass by a gutsy QB.
You will always be remembered at UT, not only for your efforts on the football team, but for your character and your work off the field. I know of many instances when you have gone out of your way to help others, and of numerous times when you showed your class and graciousness.
I know that your parents are very proud of the person you are. You are an inspiration to us all, Major.
How great it would be see see you at Royal Memorial Stadium as a UT coach. Good luck in the NFL, in your coaching career, and in all the good things that you'll do.

What can I say, he is the greatest UT QB we've had up to this point. This guy is the embodiment of perseverence. I am sure at 6' 200 lb., most people thought he was more suited to play golf rather than football. However this guy not only played the game, he excelled. We will indeed miss him.

One of my favorite memories is getting to shake your hand after the Baylor game Saturday.
I am a friend of your parents' neighbor, Pam Pittard. Whenever I think of you, I will always remember the class you have shown during your career at Texas. You have made Longhorn fans proud to wear the burnt orange again. Thank you for all the great memories we have because of you. My particular favorite is the long pass to Wane out of the end zone against OU. I was as pumped as you were after that play! That pass to Wane against Nebraska up there was the epitome of Major Applewhite to me. I really believe that you willed that play to work. I don't think anybody else could have made that play. God, I love it! I would like to add my sentiments that I hope you return to UT as a coach someday. Seeing you in any other team's colors would just not be right. Take care.

Major, you're my hero. To think I never even heard of you until the UCLA game in 1998. We were so worried about you heading into the KSU game that year, and you caused our jaws to drop by performing like a senior.
From there you kept taking our breath away. You led us to victory over NU, atm, and over MSU in the Cotton Bowl. You took us all the way to the B12 title game in 1999 and another Cotton Bowl birth. It wouldn't have been possible without you.
Thanks for representing us so well off the field as well. You're clearly mature beyond your years. I was blessed to see that you don't hide your love for Christ. Thanks again. We pray much success for you at the next level!

Hey Major:
When I think about the Longhorn program turning around and becoming the national title contender that it is today, I think of you and Ricky Williams. You have been a great asset to the University and hope you continue to pursue your goals at the next level, whether it be as a player or coach. Thanks for all your hard work and class. You will be missed. Good luck in the future.

Major-
I've been a huge fan ever since you stepped onto the field for Richard Walton. You've had a tremendous career here at Texas and secured your spot as a Longhorn legend.
I wish you the best at a career in the NFL. Regardless, your tremendous intellect and leadership skills are always welcome on Coach Brown's staff.

Wow....What can one say to make you fully understand how much you mean to Longhorn fans. You are a gifted athlete, an example of true sportsmanship and a wonderful role model. Above all, you are truly the epitomy of what we fans admire most about Texas Football. Thank you for the incredible memories and for teaching us that good players can be good men. I stood by the buses after a Cotton Bowl practice a few years ago with a football signed by Earl Campbell that my father treasures. I was seeking Ricky's autograph...as, it was his last game. He was being hurried onto the team bus. You saw the disapointment in my eyes and broke out of line to come sign my ball. I've never been prouder to see two champions' signatures in my life - you and Earl. That ball holds a special place in my home and you hold a special place in my heart. Best wishes for a bright future. Hook Em' Horns, Major!

Thanks for letting me have bragging rights over all my Husker friends after going into Lincoln, busting their home-winning streak, and proving that Texas over Nebraska was no fluke!
You're a great player, and an even better person - thanks for showing everyone how to be a Longhorn again...
Best of luck in everything you do - NFL, and then back to Texas as coach, right??
