DD: You played your heart out for us. I'm sure you read some of the bad [censored] said on this board about you, but I hope not too much of it was taken personally. You're a Longhorn, you play your ass off, and we love you for it. Congrats on the Butkus nomination.
Thanks, DD!

You switched over to defense from running back and became an immediate force on those Texas Ds that struggled during the transition period. I had become accustomed to seeing other teams score whenever they could get a back beyond the line with a little open field. With you on the outside, I could hope to see a flying Texas linebacker close and make a touchdown saving tackle. I would say that, in many ways, the particular style of the defense you lead from the middle today was begun when you changed sides of ball. The long tradition of tough Texas defense that predated you was rejuvenated and reinforced when you took the field, it just began to move a little faster. To me, DD Lewis is the guy who caused me to often say, " Ah hell, he's going to score. No! There's Lewis!"
Off the field, I admire your quiet class.
Congrats on your nomination for the Butkus and your very good defensive play as we come to the end of your last season. Thanks for the memories.

D.D. Lewis --
It has been a joy to watch you anchor this great Texas defense for four years. When people look back at the turnaround of Texas defense, D.D. Lewis will be one of the first names that comes to mind. After an abysmal 1997 season, this program was desperate to see some guys on D who could dominate a game. Thanks for leading the defensive revolution.

Thanks for the memories and the hard work on and off the field. Individuals like yourself always remind me of why I am so proud of Texas, The University. You prove that with hard work, and desire, there are no limits to what great things a person can accomplish. Zion has a great dad, and great roll model for life. D.D. - Congratulations on your great career with the Horns -- both on and off the football field. You have given a "lesson-by-example" to the rest of us through your unceasing efforts to meet the highest standards in every aspect of your life.
You've played some great football for the Horns, and like every other UT fan, I certainly appreciate that. Beyond those contributions, however, it is your character and leadership that set you apart as one of the top players and persons we've had in the University of Texas football program.
Thanks for sharing those talents with us, and best wishes down the road in each of your endeavors.

Hey D.D., this is UTPHIL. One of my best memories of you will be from this year when you hit Quentin Griffin so hard you turned him into the letter "L". He was trying to stumble into the end zone and you made him turn in a 90 degree angle. You're one of the best UT has had the pleasure of having and rank right up there with the best UT linebackers. Good luck in the future with your goals in life and I'll enjoy watching you on Sundays!

It was a cold, cold day in Kansas. I found you and Cory after the game. After sitting a couple of hours in the freezing cold with just a little bit of denim between my butt and the elements, I was sure going to speak my mind. I told you to beat the hell out of the Aggies. You looked at me like I was crazy and told me you'd do it. And you did.
Thanks. Thanks for everything -- your leadership on and off the field. For being the kind of player, father and husband that makes us proud.

D.D.,
Thanks for kicking ass in the middle for the Horns.
Thanks for having such great Longhorn pride and spirit. You are the quintessential Texas football player.
On top of all that thank you for this precious quote. "Hit him in the mouth and he'll fold." As Horns, we won't forget that one, especially since that's exactly what you went out and did to Ja'mar Toombs and the aggies last year. And prophetically that was exactly what he and the rest of the aggies went out and did. And you guys smoked 'em.
One for the ages for sure. Good luck playing at the next level, but make sure and come back to see us in Austin. We'd appreciate that.

The first time you really stood out in my mind was your Redshirt Freshman year just after the win over OU. I recall you just looking like you were just happy to be there. From that point on I have watched for you and really enjoyed watching you grow in so many ways. You have played a big part (very big) of the Longhorn Defense for the last 4 years. I will miss watching you play every Saturday here in Austin, but I wish you luck in everything you do. God will take care of you and your family.

Thank you, DD, for four years of stellar play during which you were a big part of the resurgance of the Longhorn defense. You have helped bring the team back to the level of play that we got used to in the great years we enjoyed when I first became a Longhorn fan (1978). Now, because of your efforts and those of your teammates, these are "the great years"!
And congrats on a brilliant senior season!

Senor Lewis,
As a UT alum, and an ex-student trainer for the football team, I can say that I am PROUD to have had you and your classmates as part of our legacy. You gentlemen have been class acts on the field, but even more importantly...off the field as well.
I have experienced that after graduation...the winds that blow carry everyone in so many different directions, BUT, every fall you will again find yourself amongst family, living and dying with every snap, tackle, kick and whistle... be it from the 24th row in DKR or from a Satellite dish in another state. You'll love coming back and seeing everyone again....and hoping the new kids are as classy and hard working as you guys were....and so the baton passes again.
Thank you for choosing us.
God Bless & Hookem,
The Morgan family

Thanks so much for all that you have done to resurrect Texas football. Without looking, I'm sure we'd have to go back 20+ years to find a class that leaves with a better overall record.
During your 5 years here, you have done nothing but represent the school we all love with class and honor. . . THANKS!

D.D. - Congratulations for your selection to The Sporting News (second-team) and the Associated Press (third-team) All-American teams -- and for your selection by both the Kansas City Star and the Austin American-Statesman as a first-team linebacker on the 2001 Big 12 All-Conference football team.
These honors give recognition of the fact that this year you are having the best season of your Longhorn career.
There probably are more, similar honors coming your way as this season draws to a close -- and all of us who have watched your honest efforts for UT over the years (and particularly this season) know that you've earned them.
