San Diego?
Hotel Del Coronado. There are a few small places near the bridge you can check out.
I always preferred to stay in San Diego and drive over. The Courtyard downtown is nice and you walk to the gaslamp district. Baseball park is also only a 15-20 minute walk.
There is a Hilton on the West end of gaslamp close to the trolley line.
For historic hotel stay at the U.S. Grant.

There is also a Loews that's nice. But doesn't have the history that the Del has.

The Del for sure.

Glorietta Bay Inn. Right across the street from the Del, a whole lot cheaper, and very nice.
Del = overrated

Was the other option, but sold out. For 2 nights, I don't mind the price differential.

The El Cordova a boutique hotel across Orange Ave from the Del and right next to the Glorietta Bay Inn. It doesn't have the amentities of the Del but is a good cheap convenient option if you are going to be on the beach or otherwise off hotel grounds anyway.

Dr. Seuss wrote his books from his suite at the Hotel Del. Just ONE of the many cool things about that hotel.
